How it works: RankBrain is part of Google’s Hummingbird algorithm. While we don’t know the ins and outs of RankBrain, the general opinion is that it identifies relevance features for web pages ranking for a given query, which are basically query-specific ranking factors.<br />

How to adjust: Optimize content for relevance and comprehensiveness with the help of competitive analysis. Google still has the potential to provide an enormous amount of traffic through organic search, and does for all of my clients. An enormous amount of money is at stake. Where there's money, there is competition and a willingness to spend money to win.<br />

Search engine best practices aren't intuitive (try explaining rel=canonical to someone who isn't familiar with SEO). There will always be a need to communicate best practices to people whose primary focus isn't SEO every day. This is especially true as Google (and other search engines like Bing, Baidu, etc.) continues to change the rules.<br />

<li>Pay per click – stick with google, msn and yahoo.</li>
<li>Social bookmarking. I have had a lot of success from this. It can
give your blog or website a lot of exposure. Note I said website, you
don’t have to have a blog to social bookmark your pages. If you don’t
know much about social bookmarking.</li>
<li>Link Directories – creating links back to your website is a must and I still add my sites to link directories all the time.</li>
<li>Submitting a press release gives you now only exposure, but if you do it right nice one way links back to your website.</li>
<li>Syndicate Videos. This is a great way to create viral traffic.</li>
<li>Website on Business cards. Not all marketing should be done online. I have have a whole article devoted to this.</li>
<li>Reciprocal linking with relevant sites. Even though google has
devalued reciprocal links they should not be ignored. If the site is
relevant and gets good traffic some of it may come your way. I have
several links created this way that draws me traffic.</li>
<li>Submit your site to DMOZ. It can litterally takes years to get
listed, so you should start early after you have a couple months of
content.</li>
<li>Use pictures in your posts. When google or yahoo find them they will
index them give your site another place to draw traffic from.</li>
<li>Claim your blog in Technorati. If you have a blog this is a must.</li>
<li>Add relevant answers to answers.yahoo.com. If you have a good
content site you can put a reference to your article in the resource box
when you answer a question. I get nice traffic whenever I do this from
yahoo. Don’t spam, be helpful, you should be trying to genuinely help
people.</li>
<li>Create a google sitemap. I install XML sitemaps (<a href="http://www.trafficteria.com/?sitemaps">http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/</a>) and check out the unlimited sitemap version. For only $19.99 its a great deal.</li>
<li>If you blog is setup to automatically ping your site when new
articles are added, keep your ping list up to date. I will publish my
ping list in a seperate article or send it out in my newsletter.</li>
<li>Check out Submit religiously to relevant carnivals.</li>
<li>Use h1, h2 and h3 title tags. This is standard SEO, but important to
help your article rankings. If you can break up your articles and give
your keywords a title tag.</li>
<li>Bold, highlight or italicize your keywords. Don’t overdue this as it
will be too spammy. Trying starting a section in your article with a
highlighted keyword. Rumor has it that some search engines are starting
to pick up on highlighted words in order to determine a pages relevance.</li>
<li>Submit articles to Ezinearticles.com. Make sure your bio includes a
link back to your site and that link is an anchored keyword (i.e.
parenting, parenting tips, dog collers, cat care, etc).</li>
<li><em><strong>Free Contests </strong></em>– Can you offer something
for free to giveaway? People are always looking for free things. Make
sure it is specific to your niche.</li>
<li>Do reviews of websites in your niche and maybe even give away special awards.</li>
<li>Setup a profile in Aboutus.org and create anchored text links back to relevant part of your site.</li>
<li>Join Myspace and join relevant communities. Make comments to those
communities on a regular basis and request friends. Don’t forget to have
link back to your website form your profile.</li>
<li>Join your local better business bureau or chamber of commerce to help gain offline exposure.</li>
<li>Make sure comments are turned on. This is a great way to get free
content. If you do this make sure you have spam software on your site.
For wordpress I use akismet and review all my comments that are not
flagged as spam.</li>
<li>Build articles around long tail keywords. While it may be hard to
rank on a keyword such as “parenting”, getting ranked on a keyword
phrase such as “getting kids to listen” is a lot easier. Most of my
traffic comes from long tail keywords, and I am not complaining.</li>
<li>Create and promote fresh, unique, content rich articles. This is the
food of search engines and when promoted properly will be picked up
readily and ranked by the search engines. If you are not a writer,
consider using a service such as Need An Article for very reasonably priced unique articles search engines love.</li>

the old system, Darshan Appayanna, CIO, Happiest Minds Technologies
says, “When the exit process is triggered on the last working day of
employees, they carry a couple of sheets of paper and meet the finance,
IT, facilities, and HR team to check if any dues need to be recovered or
paid. Completing all the checks from the departments, it finally gets
signed.”</div>

This caused a lot of frustration and wastage of time as employees had to run from pillar to post.</div>

So, what did the company do? “We
automated work through the common workflow platform called ‘Smile Sign’.
Our workflow platform is our primary foundation, which has been built
to ensure that anything which needs audit trail is routed through the
workflow mechanism in order to have efficient access to information,”
says Appayanna.</div>

Before digitization in finance, when it
came to approval of cab service, everyone would send an email and fill
up a form where they mention the pickup route. But now, there are routes
which are defined in the system and once it goes to the admin, they
will do the allocation. If they are fine with the workflow, they will
give an approval.</div>

With respect to travel and expense
management, “We have made sure that people don’t have to submit physical
copies of bills. Scanned copies are accepted. At the same time,
re-imbursements and expense settlement are also digitized.</div>

Also, any invoice which comes from the
vendors are digitized and accessed by the finance team. Unwieldy folders
have become a thing of the past. Appayanna says that people are not
wasting time to open a storage room to search for files or dig out
invoices.</div>

Coming to the HR department, the company
has begun to automate employee dockets. “We are introducing a new
platform where, at the time of joining, people can send their digital
copies of mark sheets instead of taking a printout,” says Appayanna.
This platform is ready, and will be rolled out by the second half of
2016. The advantage is that everything is searchable.</div>

Appayanna, says: “It reduces bureaucracy as people don’t have to run around. They can do the work at their own convenience.”</div>

auditors were in place, the finance and HR team spent a lot of time
searching for documents. “Now we give them access to our repository,
which is catalogued. When any paper comes, it is uploaded and tagged
appropriately with the reference number to a particular department. With
this, they can search with the reference number and get the listed
documents they wish to look at.”</div>

It has been a year and three months
since the company launched this project and they have gained fruitful
dividends. Highlighting a major gain, Appayanna says, “We have saved
$175,000 yearly in terms of documents being made available and
